Our Lady's Trip to the Donegal Gaeltacht
Turas chun na Gaeltachta
OLS A Level Irish students, accompanied by the teachers in the Irish Department, had a great time on their trip to the Donegal Gaeltacht. Staying in cosy Teach Champbell, a family run guest hous in Bunbeg, gave the group a very central and scenic location during the trip.
On the first morning the group went to Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, the local secondary school. We were warmly by Principal Noel Ó Gallchóir, the staff and the students. We were also delighted by the surprise visit to the school of Tánaiste Mary Coughlan TD and Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill.

While at Pobalscoil, the Our Lady’s girls enjoyed practising their Irish and listening to the beautiful music performed by the Donegal students.

At Raidió na Gaeltachta, were live on radio with Rónán Mac Aoidh Bhuí all afternoon. The girls enjoyed talking about their experiences of learning Irish in Newry and even gave advice during the phone-in agony aunt programme.

On Friday night we had a great céilí and session at Leo’s Tavern. We danced the Siege of Ennis and the Waves of Tory agus bhí an chraic ar fheabhas!
On Saturday morning we departed our guesthouse after another delicious fry-up. On our way home, we stopped at Glenveagh National Park. It was a beautiful autumn day for a walk around the castle and the grounds.

We had a lovely picnic, a cupán tae and a sing-song as Gaeilge and headed for home.
A great trip was had by all.
