A Season finished in Style
Our Lady’s U14 Camogs finished their season in style after defeating St.Louis, Kilkeel and taking the title as Down Champions. From the first whistle the Our Lady’s team found their rhythm, passing with ease.
In the first half, the Our Lady’s forwards outwitted the St.Louis’s defence with scores from Lauren Mc Conville (1-2) Mary Kate Mc Grath (1-0) Sarah Armstrong (1-0) and Niamh McCarthy (0-1) from a free. The three mid fielders (Sarah Armstrong, Ciara Tinnelly, and Niamh McCarthy) were the engines of the team. Lauren McConville excelled in in the half forward line providing the link between midfield and the full-forward line. Niamh McCarthy played a defensive role along with Niamh Mc Greevy who was playing centre half back and was faultless on and off the ball. Oliva Loy, Jacqueline Girvan and Sinead O’Meara formed an impervious defence in the full back line taking the Kilkeel attackers in their stride. Our ace goalie, Ciara Mc Keown, had a great game only conceding one goal.
At half time the Our Lady’s side were leading ( 1-1 to 0-0 ) although the game was far from over, as St. Louis’s made a promising come back in the 2nd half opening with their first score. The first few minutes were tense as the score was (1-1 to 1-0). However, Our Lady’s stepped up to the mark as Lauren McConville scored a point.
The full forward line of Aoibheann McCarthy, Mary – Kate McGrath and Mairead Grant turned in a trojan performance and were a constant menace to the St.Louis defence. St. Louis gave a great battle but the Our Lady’s side was too strong and the full time score was (3-2 to 1-1). The inspiring Our Lady’s captain Niamh Mc Carthy lifted the Shield along with the Player of the Final trophy which was a fitting reward for another exemplary performance. This was a great team effort and a super finale to another successful season.
