Speaking at the Reception Mayor Cole Said:
On behalf of Newry and Mourne District Council I would like to congratulate you all on your excellent achievements. I know that Gymnastics is not a sport which can be mastered overnight. It takes years of dedication, determination and practice and your commitment is evident in the number of titles you have won. Each and everyone of you is a credit to yourselves, your school and your families.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you, Ms. Pettigrew as Principal of Our Lady's Grammar School. Not only is your school an centre of educational excellence but as proven here tonight, your girls are encouraged to become involved and participate in activities outside of the curriculum. You can be justly proud of your pupils who have raised the profile of Our Lady's Grammar School throughout the U.K. and Ireland.
Of course to produce such excellence as we have here tonight requires dedicated coaching and I would like to pay tribute to Mrs. Roxanne Connor. Roxanne's name has long been associated with Gymnastics in Newry and Mourne and her commitment to Our Lady's is legendary. I know that Roxanne puts in an awful lot of extra hours to ensure that the team can compete with the best in Britain and come out on top.
I would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the parents for the part they have played in this success story. As a parent myself I know it is not always easy to find the time and indeed the finance to ensure that your child reaches his or her full potential.
Once again congratulations to the girls for their magnificent achievements and I wish you all the very best in the future. May you bring many more titles back to Newry and Mourne.
