and Aoife Murnin.

Buddy engineers from Our Lady's Grammar sixth form who took part in an engineering education scheme, have been praised for their project.

For the past six months, the Engineering Education Scheme, managed by Sentinus, has had groups of local sixth form students mentored through engineering research and development projects by local businesses.

The aim is to encourage students to take on third level education in engineering related subjects with a view to following a career in the field.

The school's research and development project with Glen Electric involved a modification of the element support system in a convection heater.

The scheme concluded last week with an assessment and presentation day at the Jordanstown Campus of the University of Ulster when teams from across Northern Ireland exhibited their projects and presented their work to panels of experts.

Impressed by the range of projects on display this year, Brian Campbell, chief executive of Sentinus said, "I'm delighted with the quality of the work and the commitment of our students -year on year, Northern Ireland compares very favourably with other regions in the UK. It is the partnership between high calibre, motivated students and experienced engineers from local industries that makes this experience so valuable and unique for both partners."
