Success at the Bar National Mock Trial

Our Lady’s were Runners Up in the Belfast Regional Heat of the Bar National Mock Trial Competition.  They were narrowly defeated by Lumen Christi College, Derry.

Congratulations to the team from Our Lady’s who travelled to the law courts in Chichester Street, Belfast, on Saturday 17th November 2007.

Our budding barristers, law clerk, witnesses and jury members were involved in three rounds of legal courtroom battles.  Judges from the Belfast law courts presided over each case.  The cases presented were R v. Potter and R v. Morton.

The competition involved twelve schools from all over Northern Ireland.  The schools were divided into three leagues.  Each team’s performance was marked by the presiding judge.  The scores from each case were then added together to provide each school’s overall mark.  The highest scoring team in each league were named as league winners.  The two schools with the highest league scores – Our Lady’s and Lumen Christi College – progressed to the final.

Congratulations to all the girls who participated, to Mrs Mc Laughlin who spearheaded the campaign and Mrs Curley who coached the team!

We wish Lumen Christi College success as they progress to the UK final of the competition.
