Sile’s Poster Chosen to Feature in 2008 Environmental Calendar

Sile in J1A entered the Newry and Mourne District Council calendar competition along with her classmates.  Her entry has been chosen to appear in the 2008 calendar- which will make its way to thousands of homes throughout the district.  This is a fabulous achievement for Sile who has just entered Our Lady’s a few months ago, and also for the school who had never entered the competition before.

Councillor Michael Cole, Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, shown left presenting Sile with her certicate, held a reception in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, on 14th November 2007, for the thirteen local students whose artwork has been chosen to feature in the annual Schools’ Environmental Calendar, and was most impressed with all the entries.

On being chosen to appear in the calendar Sile said: ‘I really didn’t think I was going to win.  Like, my drawing was good but definitely wasn’t the best.  I was off the day the news came in, so the next day everyone told me and I was completely shocked.  The following week I had to go to a prize giving ceremony and receive my certificate and prizes from the Mayor.  I got a £20 voucher for Waterstones, a water clock (which is a bit unusual!), pencil case with a pen and pencil in it, a drink bottle, a cup coaster and they were all packed in this little paper bag which had been recycled from newspapers – it was really cool.  My drawing is August in the calendar, but I really wish it was January as that’s my birthday as well!’
