Our Lady's Celebrate Outstanding GCSE Success

Pupils, parents and teachers gathered at Our Lady's Grammar School to celebrate the outstanding success of the GCSE class of 2007.

Principal Ms Geraldine Pettigrew congratulated the girls upon their academic distinction which has given them an excellent foundation for continued success at A-level.

Those who came first in subjects were also acknowledged, including those who were among the highest achievers in Northern Ireland and in the UK in history, Irish and religious education.

A range of other achievements was also celebrated, including sporting prowess and excellent attendance. Every girl was congratulated upon her own individual achievements and encouraged to aim high and reach for the stars.

The presentations were made by Guest of Honour, Sister Bronagh McKeown, former Principal of Star of the Sea and St Dallan's Primary Schools in Warrenpoint and a noted educationalist who believes passionately in the potential of young people, and who urged all of the girls to use their great gifts and to serve others throughout their lives.

The girls were also delighted to welcome back to their prizegiving two of the teachers who had done so much to help them achieve their success, Ms Mary Donaghy, Senior Teacher; who was their Head of Key Stage Four and Mrs Triona Leonard, who was their Year Head in fourth and fifth year.

Jennifer MacMahon played her superb GCSE composition as a musical interlude and everyone gathered for refreshments in the Four Arches Dining Room to finish off a beautiful occasion.
