Simply the Best

Three pupils from Newry were among students from schools and colleges across the North to be awarded for their outstanding performance in CCEA's 2006 GCSE examination series.

Camille Hart, a student at Our Lady's Grammar School, was awarded after she achieved the overall highest marks in CCEA's 2006 GCSE Business Studies examination.

The ceremony -hosted by the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment, (CCEA) -rewards the talents of those pupils who have excelled in their examinations by achieving first place overall in a range of GCSE subjects and took place at the CCEA headquarters in Belfast.

Proud parents, principals, heads of departments and subject teachers gathered to celebrate the success of the young people as they collected their awards and special certificates from CCEA's chairman Alan Lennon.

"It is wonderful to see so many of our young people here who are at the top of their game," said Mr Lennon. “There is great talent among them, and I expect that the standard of performance they have set will continue whatever paths they choose throughout life and work.”

“Clearly they possess the drive, determination and enterprising qualities required to be the best; something that many can aspire to. We acknowledge them as the highest GCSE performers in Northern Ireland, which is also the highest performing GCSE region in the UK, which is quite an achievement.”

“It is the forward thinking students like these who will lead the way into the development of the dynamic and enterprising Northern Ireland of the future.  I applaud their efforts and wish them every success.”
