Newry & Mourne Netball Champions 2006
Our Lady’s Grammar School are the newly crowned Year 12 Newry and Mourne Netball Champions. The recent Blitz hosted by St Paul’s High School Bessbrook, was an exciting event. Eight teams from the Newry and Mourne area participated in what was a keenly fought competition. Our Lady’s qualified from their section by beating St Paul’s and drawing with Sacred Heart and St Joseph’s, Crossmaglen, while St Mary’s High school and St. Patrick’s Keady qualified in the other section.
Our Lady’s beat St Patrick’s Keady in what was a very exciting game which displayed some skilful Netball. St Joseph’s Crossmaglen beat St Mary’s, setting the scene for the final showdown with Our Lady’s. These two teams had met in last years; Year 11 final which Our Lady’s won by a narrow margin. Both teams were very evenly matched and due to the accuracy of shooting from Aine Muckian and Jennifer Murphy Our Lady’s captured the title. Great credit to the team who have trained hard over the last few months.
Much credit must go to the organiser Ms Aileen Mc Carron of St. Joseph’s High School and host Mrs Paula O’ Hare Armstrong of St Paul’s Bessbrook.
