School Sports Awards 2006

 

 

Our Lady’s School have been pushing their sporting talent over recent years and 2005 was a perfect example of their success.

 

 In the Inter Schools Championships in Bangor Our Lady’s won the U15 and U19 gymnastics shield. Then at the Ulster Gymnastic Championships the under 13 and under 19 Pairs teams both qualified. At the British Schools Gymnastics in Stoke on Trent the under 13 team won double gold, in team and pairs and the under 19 team won gold.

 

In golf, Louise Coffey was selected as a member of the Ulster golf team.

 

At the Newry and Mourne Schools cross-country event Our Lady’s won the Best Girls’ School.   Fionnula Loye won the under 13 race as well as winning the County Down Schools’ cross country race while the under 13 team came third. To add to their success, Aveen O’Reilly won the under 15 section and the under 15 team were also victorious.

 

Ann Marie Kane took fourth place in the All Ireland 3000 metre walk.

 

In Gaelic football the under 16 ladies team won the senior Down Championship and the under 14’s were crowned South Down and Down champions.

 

Our Lady’s also dominated Camogie proceedings in the Mournes. The senior team won both the South Down and Down championships while the teams representing the under 16’s, 14’s and 12’s triumphed in the South Down league and finished runners-up in the All County final.

 

In swimming, Shana Toner came first in the Secondary Schools ‘Butterfly’ and was selected to participate in the Ulster Schools training team in Tenerife.

 

Riona Morgan was the winner of the Schools Orienteering Festival in Armagh.

 

With such performances as standard practice Our Lady’s can look forward to a promising future in sport.
